   Question & Answers

Beginners have a lot to learn - we can have very basic questions and answers as well as ones from more experienced riders. Maybe you just want to know the best route to your dream trip. Someone knows the answer! email me with a question or an answer.

Q. Where can I find the Airhawk™ motorcycle cushion and what is so special about it?

A. The Airhawk cushion is made by Rohoinc Inc. and can be found online at www.rohoinc.com. I bought mine at "Americade", a big bike show, which is held every June at Lake George, NY. I saved some money buying it there. The Airhawk conforms to your individual shape, distributing pressure for a more comfortable ride. Believe me, it works!

Q. What riding skill do you consider to be the most important for women?

A. Balance. Good balance helps to keep the bike upright, maneuver around obstacles, and stop the bike quickly without turning it over.

Q. Why do I have to lean? I hate leaning, it's scary, the bike is going to fall over and me with it?

A. This was a hard skill for me to learn, but as my balance improved and I accelerated into the turn my leaning improved. Accelerating mean you are twisting that throttle - giving the engine gas, if you don't the engine could cut out and stop. This could also happen if the engine is cold - give it a few minutes to warm up before setting out on your trip. If this happens to you start the engine again quickly, keep the handlebars straight and maintain your balance.

If you can't get the engine started then slowly pull over to the side of the road and come to a stop. Then you can determine the problem, restart your engine and resume your ride. Be careful pulling onto the side of the road - stay on the pavement and watch where you put your feet down.

It's hard to explain leaning/cornering to a "newbie" who wants to steer the bike around curves and corners because they are afraid of leaning. You would have to go very slow to do that, imagine the line of vehicles behind you! Do not, I repeat, do not let anyone take you up or down extreme winding roads until you are very good at leaning. It will not be fun!

Finally, be patient, your skills will all come together and all will be well!

Please pass along some questions and answers. Something that made an impression on you and would help other women. Thanks!
